Each Spring we have elections for every position in USG. That includes all senators from the College of Arts and Sciences, College of Engineering and Applied Sciences and the Health Sciences Center. We usually have a special election in the Fall for any vacant seats, and it is very common for there to be a few open.
The Senate is the legislative body of the USG. The also create the budget each year in coordination with the Treasurer. The Senate meets every Thursday at 8:30pm on the third floor of the SAC. If you are interested, please sit in on a few meetings to get a sense of how it works. All Undergraduate students are invited to attend any of our meetings, and we usually do have a gallery of visitors.
To run for senate, you need to pay attention to the deadlines posted for Elections. To get your name on the ballot, you just need to get a petition signed by 100 students. You will represent the College that corresponds with your major (note that this has nothing to do with the “Undergraduate Colleges”). The three constituencies are: College of Arts and Sciences (CAS), College of Engineering and Applied Sciences (CEAS), Health Sciences Center (HSC). If you are in an engineering student (CEAS), we strong encourage you to run, as we usually have a difficult time finding students to run for those seats.
Please see the Senate page for more information.
