Dear All,

The Budget Application deadline has now passed. Clubs who have not applied or already contacted the USG Treasurer are ineligible to participate in the process.

For the clubs that have already submitted their application, please schedule a budget hearing. To schedule a budget hearing, just drop by the USG Suite during regular business hours. As a reminder, budget hearings are not mandatory or required. They are however recommended, especially for new clubs or Treasurer’s who aren’t familiar with the USG Budget Application procedure.

Grant applications (click here) are open.

Dear All,

I hope you have had a great Winter Break! On Saturday February 6th, 2010 there will be a mandatory budget workshop. If your club would like to submit a budget application for the Fall 2010-Spring 2011 year, you must attend the workshop. It is preferred that the Treasurer of your club attends (or whomever is preparing the budget). If your club is unable to send a representative, you must contact the USG Treasurer directly. If you submit a budget application without attending the workshop, it will be disregarded until you receive approval from the USG Treasurer. The workshop will go over the many aspects of being a Treasurer for a USG Line Budget Club or Organization. So here is some quick information:

When: 11am on Saturday February 6th, 2010
Where: SAC Ballroom A
Attendance: Mandatory

In the month of November, I spent the bulk of my time working in the Budget and Legislative Review committees.

As the chair of Legislative Review, I reviewed the Pay Roll Adjustment Act IV & V, the Office of Student Life, Programming and Activities Act, and the Press Pass Act. Overall, I believe that Legislative Review made a good faith effort to ensure that grammatically correct and internally consistent pieces of legislation were sent to the Senate floor.

As a member of the Budget Committee, I worked closely with the Treasurer and Budget Committee during the Budget Deliberation process. I believe that the budget revision process was extremely fair and each club that properly applied for a revision received a generous allocation. I also worked heavily on the NYPRIG contract. I feel confident that this contract, which has resolved a two-year conflict, will be a contract that can easily be renewed in future years with slight modifications.

This will be my last report as a Senator, please refer to the Treasurer’s page for all future reports.

This month I have served as the Chair of the Legislative Review, and as one of the Members of the Budget Committee. Taking it in reverse order, the Budget Committee has been a very large time commitment. During the Budget Hearing process, I have met with the Caribbean Student Organization, Fencing Team, Pre PA Club, NABA, JSO, KSA, Mens Rugby, CASB, Kumdo Club, Roller Hockey, BASIC, Handball Club, Toscanini Hall Council, Social Justice Alliance, and Hillel. It should be noted that each of those were thirty minute sessions. I have also served on the NYPRIG Budget sub-committee. With regards to Legislative Review, I have wrote legislation as well as reviewed two pieces of legislation.

I have also visited many organizations to gather their concerns about USG as well as their suggestions for USG. I have worked closely with the Vice-President of Communications (David Mazza) in developing and expanding the content on the Stony Brook USG website (http://www.sbusg.org). The VP of Communications other project this Fall has been the new campus social network sbulife (http://www.sbulife.com) and I have assisted him in the promotion and marketing strategies of that website. I encourage you all to visit both websites.

My original goals as a Senator were to work to improve and streamline communication, have proper and rigorous reviews of legislation and also to ensure that the monies of the USG (that is to say, the monies of the Stony Brook Undergraduate Students) are spent in accordance with the Financial Bylaws and revised fairly. I feel that it is clear that I have spent the time and put in the work needed to achieve those goals.

Best Regards,
Moiz Khan

Over the past month, I have spent my office hours attempting familiarize myself with Robert’s Rules of Order as well as the constitution and the rest of the bylaws. I have largely focused in on the financial side of USG, such as the financial bylaws and SSC. Currently I sit on two committees, the Budget and the Legislative Review. On the budget committee I have assisted half the committee in setting up their Stony Brook USG Google Account.

Aside from that, I have spent some time interacting with student clubs around campus. I have already met with the Enduring Freedom Alliance, the Stony Brook Press, FMLA, FOCUS Magazine, Social Justice Alliance, the Bicycle Club, Animated Perspectives, NYPIRG, as well as other groups.

Finally, I have worked with the VP of Communications and Public Relations, David Mazza in redesigning the USG Website, which can be accessed at http://sbusg.org. I have also worked with David Mazza on http://www.sbulife.com, so if you have not already please make an account on http://www.sbulife.com.
