May 8, 2010

For the month of April I was very involved in reviewing the proposed new structure for SAB. The VP of Student Life called a meeting for the Programming and Activities Committee to review a revision of the SAB By-laws. The introduction of another proposal which changed the present SAB structure even greater complicated the meeting. I talked to many people within RHA about the new By-laws and attempted to get an understanding of how SAB and everyone else felt. This was a controversial issue but hopefully we will soon see progress next year.

I also reviewed the newly revised budget for next year. After noticing a large decrease in funding for Hall Councils I spoke to the USG Treasurer about the issue. He cleared up my answers but I still was not fully satisfied. I could not come up with a logical argument against the budget but I decided to still voice my opinion.

All in all, I think this year was very eventful and very productive. Legislation was passed that will hopefully improve life on campus in the future. The Zebra Path was restored to Black and White. Although it may be unsure if it was truly USG’s support that was the tipping point we can a least say that there is a movement brewing. Students want to be in control of their campus again.

Thanks,

USG Senator

April 12, 2010

For the month of March I have been very involved with the USG Ad Hoc Committee to Examine Potential Tuition Changes. I attended the meetings as Vice Chair, did my homework, and helped with the creation of the Google survey. I then helped to analyze the data by creating grapghs and charts. I have also written an article on PHEEIA which was published in the Statesman to inform students on the pros and cons of supporting or standing against PHEEIA and budget cuts.

I attended the USG Spring Leadership Day that was themed for transitioning executive board members. I presented along with the RHA Treasurer to the Hall Council bureau during the event. This was a very beneficial opportunity that greatly benefited the Hall Councils. I commend Ashley Reji for her hard work.

Thanks,

March 9, 2010

Over the course of February I have been busy with the new USG Ad Hoc Committee that has been given the task of reviewing PHEEIA and understanding what changes to tuition the act means. The committee has been meeting Sundays to go through the act as well as come up with survey questions. Getting the survey software has been a difficulty and the committee may talk to David Mazza for help.

I have also attended the University Senate meeting for the month of February. There was a lot of talk about PHEEIA. I saw President Wilson’s speech on the matter as well as a short statement from GSO. I have been trying to keep the Ad Hoc Committee aware of the on goings of the University Senate as it pertains to the mission of the committee.

The Resolution on Repainting the Zebra Path has been getting a lot of attention lately. I spoke to Rian Shah earlier February about necessary actions that he must take up due to my time constraints. He rose to the occasion and spoke to Facilities about the situation. They told him that they were planning on repainting the Zebra Path black and white this Spring. Rian then brought this information to the press so that such a statement would not be able to be backed out on without being reprimanded by the public news. The AA-zine in the Press will be running an article on this issue in their next issue.

This month has been very eventful.

January 22, 2009

For the month of December I presented the “Resolution on Painting the Zebra Path”. This resolution was passed and I am in the process of meeting with David Mazza to formulate a plan to take action. The Zebra Path is a traditional place on campus and should be preserved as so.

Also I have been in communication with Keith Tilley regarding the Programming and Activities Committee. Keith is hoping to organize a social among USG as well as become more involved with large campus events such as Brookfest and Roth Pond Regatta. I excited to help with these events and I am interested to see how they go.

Thanks,

December 3, 2009

For the month of November I have been productive. I have attended all but one senate meeting this month. The unexcused absence was due to RHA co-sponsoring the CSA Meet Your Seawolves event. I was involved in preparing supplies, prizes, and attendees including myself. I should have prepared a proxy for the meeting but I did not think of this ahead of time.

I have also been working on a resolution to paint the Zebra Path black and white with the student Rian Shah. Rian Shah approached me for help with getting USG’s support on the issue. I wrote up a draft of the resolution and reviewed it with multiple people. People have expressed support for the resolution and its cause.

Thank You,

November 3, 2009

This past month I have been trying to fulfill my duties to best of my ability. I volunteered at the USG Leadership Day in the morning and then participated in the Hall Council training at the second half of the day. I went to a conference last week and I had to proxy my vote to an RHA Representative Darryl. I watched the majority of the Special Elections Debate that took place after the Senate meeting two weeks ago and I voted for the two positions I was eligible to vote on.

I do need improvement in some areas. I have yet to attend a budget hearing. My Programming and Activities Committee has to meet soon. I have not been keeping up on my office hours and check picking up abilities. These are some things I will be working on.

Reji about the USG training and its relation to giving RHA time with Hall Councils. I have also spoken to David Mazza about collaboration with the newly formed club HUB on campus. The first month has been nice and productive.
