Dear Executive Vice President Kriscenski,

It is with pleasure that I have been able to help my fellow students on campus this past month. After staying in my residential cooking suite during the winter months, I realized that there was an inconsistency with the fees for the rooms. It seems that living in the residence halls for the Fall, winter, and spring semesters cost more than living in the west apartments for the same duration. After contacting many university officials, I was led to RHA president and USG senator MacCarthy who will be considering room rates for the following year. He will be sending me a copy of the breakdown of the room amenities for my review and I hope to resolve these issues as soon as possible.

In addition, my recommendation to the FSA for a library cart failed because of the necessary costs involved with running it. As an alternative, I have recommended a healthy options vending machine which is expected to appear in the commuter lounge of the SAC by April of this year. It will have REAL food that will be switched at the end of every day. The reason this may be effective is that sandwiches, fruits, and salads that were sold in the SAC can be transferred to these vending machines after the SAC closes. The benefit of this vending machine is the fact that it is changed daily and will have healthy food.

One other issue that has came up and has been resolved is that the university student health insurance company, Aetna, had removed the university hospital as an in-network provider, meaning that students could not go to the SB hospital for treatment unless they wanted to pay a fortune for it. Recently, the hospital and insurance company have come to an agreement and have reestablished the SB hospital as being covered by the insurance plan.

All in all, it has been quite a productive month and I hope these last few months as Senator, I can go above and beyond by expanding ideas that my peers give to me and that I come up with on my own.

Sincerely Yours,

Dear Executive Vice President Kriscenski,

I have been working hard this past month on a few different areas of the university. In regards to my position at FSA, President Wilson, Senator A. Khan, and I are in the talks of creating a student brainstorming committee that will act to develop ideas and critiques about the multiple facilities and products of FSA. I hope that this will attract a number of students on campus who are serious about changing the dining facilities, Seawolves Marketplace, Campus Bookstore, and other vending services. I would primarily ask that any interested parties email me directly at: Abenelyahoo@stonybrookusg.org. I would like to quickly note that the FSA is looking for student feedback about how to innovate every aspect of the organization and a student committee would provide a larger sample size from the university.

In addition, I have been putting in as many office hours as possible to be sure to be available to any and all students that require my assistance. As has been my experience, there is usually no one who shows up to the office hours and I feel that either students are apathetic or do not realize that we can help them or better direct them to the appropriate people who can. I advise that any student who needs assistance with their club, organization or an administrative issue on campus contact myself or any of the senators.

Respectfully,

Aharon Benelyahoo

Senator

These past few weeks as Senator, I have been doing numerous things to help start the ball rolling with the senate for this year. In addition, I have taken on some duties to represent the student body and/or USG in order to better Stony Brook University as a whole. I think it is important to note that the objective I have made for myself for this year is to act as a trustee for the student body in various organizations that lack any student input. I was just recently elected as the Resident Senator to the Faculty Student Association’s Board of Directors, which I hope will allow me to provide feedback on many different aspects of the university run by the FSA.
Furthermore, I have been working with multiple faculty members in the University Diversified Education Curriculum committee to assess and revise the University DEC requirements. I sit as Co-Chair with Senator A. Khan of the survey subcommittee reporting to the DEC committee. We are currently in the process of creating and sending out a survey to the students for input about their DEC classes. This committee’s purpose is “to assess and reconsider the Stony Brook general education curriculum to provide our students with a diverse educational foundation that will facilitate lifelong active and
adaptive learning and inspire engaged global citizenship.”
In addition, I have been working with many of the new senators and clubs, helping answer any questions that I come across. We have had a great start with our new senate body and I am looking forward to hearing all the new ideas and opinions from the senate, and, if ever, from a student who comes in during office hours.
