2.0 Announcements:
-Haiti vigil tonight at 8 pm.
-Sen. Hagler has resigned. His seat is now vacant.
3.0 Approval of minutes
-Sen. Harounian made a motion to approve the minutes from 12/3/09. Seconded. Motion carried without objection.
-Sen. Kashan made a motion to approve the minutes from 12/10/09. Seconded. Motion carried without objection.
4.0 Special Services Council Allocations:
- $1080 for I.F.S.C. After some discussion, Sen. Bose made a motion to approve the allocation. Seconded. After no debate a vote was taken. The motion carried (15-0-2)
5.0 USG Elections Timeline
-Sen. Machalow made a motion to amend “being” à “begin” under March 16. Seconded and passed without objection. Sen. Graber made a motion to approve the timeline. Seconded. After no debate a vote was taken and the motion carried unanimously (17-0-0).
6.0 Spring Budget Process Timeline
-Treasurer Khan presented the timeline to the senate. Sen. Ahmad made a motion to approve the timeline. Seconded. After no debate a vote was taken and the motion carried unanimously (17-0-0)
7.0 Confirmation of Treasurer’s Assistants
-Treasurer Khan spoke on behalf of three potential assistants: Ken Colton, Michelle Idrees and Ron Quillen. Some discussion was held on the assistants hired by the prior treasurer who were not retained. Sen. Fan made a motion to approve the 3 assistants. Debate continued. Sen. Ahmad called the question. Seconded. A vote was taken and the question was called (15-0-2) and debate ended. The motion to approve the 3 assistants carried 13-2-2.
8.0 Confirmation of the VP of Communications Assistant – Jasmine Trinh
-VP Mazza introduced Ms. Trinh. Her resume was distributed. After a brief discussion, Sen. Ahmad made a motion to confirm Ms. Trinh. Seconded. After no debate, Ms. Trinh was approved unanimously (17-0-0).
9.0 Appropriation Act 11 – $16,000 for Roth Regatta.
-Treasurer Khan presented the Act. Sen. Graber made a motion to approve the Act. Seconded. Sen. Machalow made a motion to change spelling of “Regetta” à “Regatta” and add a period. Seconded and passed without objection. A vote was taken on the Appropriation and it passed unanimously (17-0-0).
10.0 Appropriations Act 12 – $1000 for PDF rendering software
-Treasurer Khan presented the Act. Sen. Cushing made a motion to approve the Act. Seconded. After no debate a vote was taken. The act passed (16-0-1).
11.0 Appropriations Act 13 – $2500 for USG Budget Workshop.
-Treasurer Khan amended the amount $2500à$2000. A brief discussion was held. Seconded and carried unanimously (17-0-0). Sen. Fan made a motion to approve the act. Seconded. After no debate a vote was taken and the act carried (16-0-1).
12.0 Open Agenda
-The NYPIRG regional coordinator addressed the senate and spoke about tuition increases and funding cuts. He also introduced Aarti Sheth, the new Stony Brook NYPIRG campus coordinator, to the Senate. A brief discussion was held.
-Vigil for Haiti will take place immediately following meeting. All senators are encouraged to attend.
