2.0 Announcements
Late Senate reports should be given to the Executive VP.
Next semester meetings are scheduled for Tuesdays at 7pm. Senators should plan their schedules accordingly.
3.0 Approval of minutes from 10/29/09
Sen. Graber made a motion to amend the minutes and mark Sen. Fan as present. Seconded and approved without objection.
Sen. A. Khan made a motion to approve the minutes as amended. Seconded. After no debate the motion was approved without objection.
4.0 Special Services Council Allocations: presented by SSC Chair Mashouf
Questions were taken from the Senate on each allocation.
-FOCUS $1025 Sen. Haq made a motion to approve the allocation for FOCUS. Seconded. After no debate a vote was taken and the motion carried 18-0-1.
-Prelaw Club $750. Sen. Graber made a motion to approve. Seconded. After no debate a vote was taken and the motion carried 15-0-4
-SBU Freethinkers $750. Sen. Kashan made a motion to approve the allocation. Seconded. After no debate a vote was taken and the motion carried 15-0-4.
-Habitat for Humanity $750. Sen. Ahmad made a motion to approve the allocation. Seconded. After no further debate a vote was taken and the motion carried unanimously 19-0-0.
-Veterans’ Club $750. Sen. J. Cushner made a motion to approve the allocation. After some debate a vote was taken. The vote on the floor was 9-9-1. Executive VP Kriscenski cast the deciding vote in favor of the allocation. Motion carried and the allocation was approved 10-9-1.
-College Democrats $820. Sen. Kashan made a motion to approve the allocation. Seconded. After no further debate a vote was taken. Motion carried (9-1-9).
5.0 Appropriations Act #2
Sen. Haq made a motion to refer Appropriations Act #2 back to committee. Seconded. After no debate a vote was taken and the motion carried (18-0-1).
6.0 Pay Roll Act IV
Sen. M. Khan presented the Act to the Senate. A discussion was held. Sen. M. Khan made a motion to amend the Act by striking “The Senate Finds that—” from the bill. Seconded. After no debate a vote was taken. Motion carried 17-1-1. Amendment approved.
Sen. Harounian made a motion to approve the Pay Roll Act IV as previously amended. A debate was held. Debate ended and a vote was taken and the motion carried unanimously (19-0-0). Pay Roll Act IV passed.
7.0 Office of Student Life, Programming and Activities Act
Sen. Graber made a motion (#1) to amend the Office of Student Life, Programming and Activities Act as per the distributed amendments. Seconded. VP Tilley spoke to the Senate regarding the Act. He encouraged Senators to vote down the amendments. A lengthy discussion was held. Sen. Haq called the question on motion #1. Seconded. A vote was taken 17-2-0. Question called and debate ended on motion #1. A vote was taken on Sen. Graber’s amendments to the Office of Student Life, Programming and Activities Act. The amendments failed. Sen. M. Khan made a motion (#2) to approve the Office of Student Life, Programming and Activities Act. Seconded. A debate was held. Sen. Haq called the question. Seconded. 18-1-0. Question called on motion #2. A vote was taken on the Office of Student, Life, Program and Activities Act (motion #2) (12-2-5). Act passed.
8.0 Election of the President Pro Tempore
Nominations for President Pro Tempore were taken from the floor. Sen. M. Khan nominated Sen. Haq, who accepted. Sen. Kashan nominated Sen. Graber, who accepted. Sens. Haq and Graber addressed the Senate, respectively, regarding their candidacy. A vote was taken by secret ballot with J. Miranda and Natalie Crnosija serving as tellers. Sen. Haq received 11 votes, Sen. Graber 8 votes. Sen. Haq was elected President Pro Tempore. A round of applause was given to Sens. Haq and Graber.
9.0 Open Agenda
Sen. Bose encouraged everyone to attend SAB meetings.
VP Forbes made his report for the month of October.
