Senator Mahmud’s October Report

Monthly Senator Report

October 29th 2009

Dear Vice President Kriscenski:

Over the last several weeks I have continued to hold my required office hours and have continued working on business within my two committees. In the Rules and Referendum Committee we had discussed changes to the SSC Bylaws. The changes were sent to Senate and were passed on last Thursday at the October 22nd Senate meeting. In the Legislative Committee we discussed and voted on changes to Payroll Act 4 regarding the SSC Council. The goal was fairly compensate council members who are putting a lot of time into the organization. Prior to our suggested corrections SSC council members were not being compensated at all which was something we found to be unfair. The amendments to the Payroll Act will be discussed in the next Senate meeting on October 29th, 2009.

While attending my office hour, I was approached by several commuter students who were upset at the fact that the pool table located in the Commuter Commons is heavily worn out and can no longer be used. As the Commuter representative I had scheduled a meeting with the Director of Facilities Management in the Student Activities Center which was supposed to be on Thursday October 29th, 2009 however it was cancelled at the last minute. We have rescheduled to meet again next week. The problem with the 5 mph speed limit at South P is no longer a major issue. The busses no longer adhere to the speed limit; however I have scheduled a transportation forum with the Director of Transportation Jim O’Connor at one of the upcoming CSA meetings.
